Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an alloy having less segregation and excellent surface flatness by melting copper in vacuum, then casting after admixing low melting point metal in an inert gas atmosphere, and melting the resulted casting again by heating, and casting in inert gas.
CONSTITUTION: A vacuum tank of a vacuum melting furnace is made vacuum and the copper with in a crucible is molten by electically heating to degas the molten metal. Inert gas e.g. gaseous argon is introduced and the gas is then stopped keeping about 150 Jorr and metal of low melting point e.g. bismuth is added. When the molten metal becomes uniform, electric power is cut off and the molten metal is charged into a mold. Next, the copper alloy is charged to a crucible within the vacuum tank. Inside of the vacuum tank is then made vaccum and electric power is thrown on to melt the copper alloy in the crucible within the vacuum tank. It is kept until the molten metal becomes uniform. Gaseous argon is then introduced and electric power is cut off. The molten metal is casted in the mold immediately.
