Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled alloy industrially and economically by putting mateials for the alloy in a melting furnace using arc as a heat source and by melting them in an inert gaseous atmosphere under specified conditions of atmospheric pressure, arc voltage and arc current.
CONSTITUTION: Materials for an alloy of Mn and a Ti group metal such as electrolytic Mn and spongy Ti, Zr of Hf are put in a melting furnace using arc as a heat source, and they are melted in an atmosphere of an inert gas such as gaseous Ar under the conditions of 30TorrW1.5 atm atmospheric pressure, 10W40V arc voltage and 2W200A arc current per one ml obtd. alloy. A water cooled copper crucible is preferably used as the melting furnace so as to prevent the pollution of the molten metal.
