Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a regenerating thyristor, by providing the power supply of a motoring thyristor and that of a regenerating thyristor independently of each other and at the same time having a single structure for a commutating circuit of above-mentioned two thyristors respectively. CONSTITUTION:A thyristor 5 is ignited when a motoring thyristor 1 is tuned on. Thus the electric charge of a capacitor 7 is discharged via a reactor 6, the thyristor 5, a diode 13 and the thyristor 1. Then the thyristor 1 is turned off. The thyristor 5 is ignited when a regenerating thyristor 2 is turned on. Thus the electric charge of the capacitor 7 is discharged via the reactor 6, the thyristor 5 and the thyristor 2. As a result, the thyristor 2 is turned off. In this case, the current flowing to a load 12 is superposed on the resonance current of the capacitor 7 and the reactor 6. Thus no current flows to the thyristor 2, and accordingly the load of the thyristor 2 is reduced.
