Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a high strength sliding member made of Al alloy with superior seizing resistance by subjecting a green compact of hypereutectic high- Si Al alloy powder contg. two or more among Cu, Mg, Zn, Ni and Mn to suitable extrusion and heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Al alloy powder having a hypereutectic composition consisting of ≤30wt% Si, 1W10wt% in total of two or more among Cu, Mg, Zn, Ni and Mn, and the balance essentially Al and contg. finely and uniformly distributed proeutectic Si is used as starting material. Said Al alloy powder having ≤0.3mm grain size is compression-molded to form a green compact, and the compact is indirectly extruded into a billet at 350W475°C. A part of the billet corresponding to a sliding surface layer is heted to a temp. in the range from a temp. at which liq phase formation begins to the temp. +50°C to form pores at 0.5W10vol% porosity. The billet is then subjected to soln. heat tratment and aging to enhance the mechanical strength.
