Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve discharge durability, shelf life, and life performance by placing a specific ion permeable layer between an anode active material and a cathode active material of a silver oxide battery. CONSTITUTION:A cathode active material 1 mainly comprising silver oxide is accommodated in a cathode can 2, and an anode active material 3 mainly comprising zinc is accommodated in an anode can 4. An electrolyte absorbent layer 6 and ion permeable membranes 7-9 are placed between those active materials 1 and 3, and both cans 2 and 4 are sealed with a gasket 5 interposed in between to form a button type silver oxide battery. The ion permeable membranes 6-9 consist of an ion permeable membrane 8 containing a material, for example an inorganic sulfide such as zinc sulfide, which catches a metallic ion of silver oxide by adsorbing or reducing that ion, placed on the cathode active material side, and an ion permeable membrane 9 containing a material, for example a titanium compound or a calcium compound, which catches a metallic ion of zinc, placed on the anode active material side, and an ion permeable membrane 7 having oxidation resistance, placed on the cathode active material side.
