Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the discharge characteristics, and increase the preservation performance of an air cell by using an air electrode which consists of current collecting bodies which are placed in the center of the air electrode, an electrode which contains a smaller amount of a volatile matter and is placed on the side of the electrolyte, and another electrode containing a larger amount of the volatile matter. CONSTITUTION:An air supply hole 2 is provided in the bottom of a positive can 1 which also serves as a positive terminal. A sheet of paper 7 with a high gas permeability, an air transmitting membrane 8 made of Tefron, an air electrode 3, and an electrolyte holding material 5 are placed in the positive can 1. A negative electrode body 6 made of gel-like zinc powder is placed in a negative can 9. A gasket 10 is interposed between the cans 1 and 9. The air supply hole 2 is sealed with a sealing material 11 with a tacky agent 12, and the whole constitutes an air cell. The air electrode 3 is prepared by placing current collecting bodies 4 made of an alkali- proof metal between electrodes 13 and 14, which contain different amounts of a volatile matter, before the electrodes 13 and 14 are subjected to heat press to be unified. The electrode 14 containing a larger amount of the volatile matter is placed on the side of the air supply hole 2, while the electrode 13 containing a smaller amount of the matter is placed on the side of the electrolyte.
