Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the resistance to liquid leakage of an alkaline battery by interposing a mixture of a synthetic-resin sealing agent with mercaptan between sealing parts. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 2 made of silver oxide or the like, a separator 3, an electrolyte impregnant 4, and a zinc negative electrode 5 are placed in a cyrindrical metal case 1 having a bottom. After that, an insulating gasket 7 is interposed between the metal case 1 and a sealing plate 6 to hermetically close the metal case 1, and the whole constitutes a battery. Here, either a liquified packing or a solidified film 8 is laid over the surface of the sealing plate 6 which touches the insulating gasket 7. The former liquified packing or the like is a mixture of mercaptan with a synthetic-resin sealing agent such as a polybutene, a polyethylene chlorosulfonate or a polyamide. The ratio of the former mercaptan to the former synthetic-resin sealing agent is preferred to be 0.01-5wt%.
