Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the liquid-leakage resistance of a sealed alkaline battery by placing both the periphery of a separator and the flat part of a positive can on the inner surface of a gasket, which has an L-form cross section and is placed on the periphery of the bottom surfae of a negative can, before the end of the negative can is inwardly bent with pressure. CONSTITUTION:A positive can 11, which is made of a nickel-plated steel plate, has a flat part 11' and is used for a silver oxide-zinc battery or the like, is packed with a positive active material 12 and a separator 13 made of a polyethylene film. The positive can 11 is placed in a negative can 14, in which a negative active material 15 made of zinc is placed and which has an end 14' that iS pressed and curved into -form afterward. A gasket with an L-form cross section is interposed between the cans 11 and 14, before the end 14' of the can 14 is curved to make a -form gasket 16 to be formed and fixed between the cans 11 and 14. Since any active material is not packed in the gasket, the sealing of a battery can be secured and the liquid-leakage resistance of the battery can be increased. Besides, any slight short which might be caused by silver oxide existing between the gasket 16 and the separator 13 can be prevented.
