Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the discharge performance and the preservation performance of an alkaline battery by using an active material prepared by mixing manganese dioxide and silver oxide, which is prepared by forming metal silver films on parts of the surface of secondary grins made up of condensed silver oxide grains, in a given ratio. CONSTITUTION:A metal exterior case 1 is packed with a molded body 2, which is prepared by molding a mixture containing a mixed active material consisting of 0- 50wt% of manganese dioxide and 100-50wt% of silver oxide, which has a high bulk density and is prepared by forming metal silver films on parts of the surfaces of secondary grains made up of condensed primary silver-oxide grains. After that, a separator 3, a nonwoven cloth 4, and a negative electrode 5 made of gel-like zinc are placed over the body 2, thereby a silver-oxide alkaline battery being constituted. Owing to the above constitution, the separator 3 doesn't undergo any oxidation since a thin silver film is formed on the molded body 2 and silver oxide is not exposed. Besides, small friction between the grains enables the molded body 2 to be tightly packed in the case 1. Consequently, the discharge performance and the preservation performance of the battery can be increased.
