Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the mass production capability of a separator for an alkaline battery, increase the preservation life, and improve the liquid-leakage resistance of the battery by preparing a separator from a mercerized pulp having a mean fiber length within a given range. CONSTITUTION:A positive depolarizer 2 made of manganese dioxide or the like, a separator 3, and a negative active material 4 made of an amalgamated zinc powder are placed in a cylindrical metal case 1 with a bottom. After that, the battery is sealed by use of a sealing metal plate 5 with an insulating elastic ring 6, thus a button-type alkaline battery being constituted. The separator 3 is prepared from a mercerized pulp having a mean fiber length of 1-2.3mm.. Or else, the separator 3 is prepared by making a mercerized pulp to be added with 8-20wt% of a synthetic fiber or a synthetic resin, such as polyethylene-polypropylene complex fiber or vinylon fiber. The density of the separator 3 is preferred to be 0.4-0.7g/cc.
