Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any increase of the internal resistance of a button-type alkaline battery, and improve the discharge characteristic of the battery of adding porous grains made of calcium hydroxide to the negative electrode principally containing an amalgamated zinc powder. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 4 made of manganese dioxide or the like, a separator 6, and a material 7 impregnated with electrolyte are placed within a battery case 2 also serving as a positive terminal. A negative electrode 8 made of an amalgamated zinc powder or the like is packed into a sealing plate 1 also serving as a negative terminal. The sealing plate 1 packed with the negative electrode 8 is placed over the material 7, with a gasket 3 interposed between the plate 1 and the case 2, to hermetically close the former case 2, and the whole constitute a button-type alkaline battery. Here, the amalgamated zinc powder used for the negative electrode 8 is mixed with porous grains made of calcium hydroxide. The former porous grains, which have a bulk specific gravity of 1.55g/cm<2>, a porosity of 30% and a grain size of 32-50mesh, are prepared by, for example, adding 60pts.wt. of pure water to 100pts.wt. of calcium hydroxide to make a paste, before the paste is dried and crushed.
