Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the performance of a battery having a limited volume by restricting the relation between the amount and the concentration of an electrolyte made of an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution added with zinc oxide. CONSTITUTION:An alkaline battery is constituted by use of a negative electrode 4 made of an amalgamated zinc used as an active material, a positive electrode 3 made of manganese dioxide used as an active material, and a liquid holding material 6 impregnated with an electrolyte made of an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution. The amount and the concentrtaion of the electrolyte are adjusted so that an ineauality of C/D>0.3366(B-0.102A) is satisfied: A represents the initial concentration of potassium ions contained in the electrolyte (mol/l); B represents the specific gravity of the aqueous potassium hydroxide solution (g/ml); C represents the total amount of the electrolyte poured into the battery (mul); D represents the amount of zinc used as the active material (mAH). Consequently, the performance of a button- type alkaline battery with a limited internal volume can be increased by restriting the relations between the battery capacity, and the amount and the concentration of the former electrolyte to within the most appropriate range.
