Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit correct estimation of the capacity left by measuring the hydroxide ion concentration in a battery. CONSTITUTION:An alkaline electrolyte cell is formed by putting a separator 4 between a negative electrode 1 made of zinc etc. and a positive electrode 2 made of silver oxide etc. and immersing both electrodes into alkaline electrolyte solution 3. Measurement of the battery capacity left is performed by measuring the hydroxide ion concentration of alkaline electrolyte solution 3. Since the hydroxide ion concentration in the vicinity of the negative electrode 1 decreases locally when battery is discharged rapidly, and unevenness in hydroxide ion distribution is formed, the measurement is performed by measuring hydroxide ion concentration described above or its moving speed.
