Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise resistance to liquid-leakage by spreading a carbonate between a gasket and the metallic parts of both a case and a cover, in case that the case and the cover are sealed with the gasket interposed between them. CONSTITUTION:After a case 1 is filled with a given electrode group 2, a part of the side wall of the case 1 is stretched inward to make a supporting step 1a. After that, a carbonate 7 such as zinc carbonate, lead carbonate etc. is applied to the inside surface of a sealing part 6 of the said case 1. A sealing cover 8 having a diaphragm 8a, in turn, is fixed to the part 6 via a gasket 9 made of nylon and, finally, the sealing part 6 is folded inwardly to seal the battery. With this constitution. Any slight leakage of an alkaline electrolyte can be chemically treated and be confined in the case of the battery.
