Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the liquid leakage of an alkaline battery to be effectively prevented without causing any deterioration of the discharge performance, by employing an aqueous alkali solution containing a given concentration of potassium ions as an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 3 whose active material is Ag2O or the like, is packed into a battery case 1 which also serves as a positive terminal. A separator layer 5, and a material 8 which is impregnated with an electrolyte are placed on the positive electrode 3. Next, a sealing gasket 10 is interposed between the case 1 and a sealing plate 2 which also serves as a negative terminal, which is filled with a negative electrode 4 whose active material is zinc, to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes a button-type alkaline battery. The electrolyte of such a battery is an aqueous alkali solution (an aqueous KOH solution) which contains 7.3- 8.3mol/l of potassium ions.
