Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily manufacture corrosion resistant brass contg. a prescribed amount of P for a heat exchanger by adding a specified amount of Si to corrosion resistant brass contg. P to prevent the oxidation of P when the brass is refined.
CONSTITUTION: 0.002W0.07% P is added to brass contg. 25W38% Zn to reduce the corrosion due to a gas contg. gaseous Cl and gaseous SO2. When this brass contg. P is refined, P is oxidized by oxygen in the air, so it is difficult to regulate the P content. By adding 0.005W0.5% Si to molten starting material when brass contg. P is refined, the surface of the molten metal is covered with part of molten Si and hindered from contacting with the air. Accordingly, the oxidation of P is prevented, and the desired amount of P can be added easily. Brass for a heat exchanger with superior corrosion resistance can be manufactured easily.
