Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an oxide dispersion reinforced type copper alloy with good efficiency in a short time by sucking an oxygen-contg. gas into molten metal of copper to oxide part of copper then adding a metal for formation of oxides thereto thereby oxidizing the same.
CONSTITUTION: In a high frequency furnace, electric copper is melted and air is blown through a graphite pipe to oxide part of the copper, wherby Cu2O and CuO are formed. Next, metals such as Al, Ti, Si, Cr of the negative absolute value of free energy for formation of oxides larger than that of copper are added to Cu at about the amt. at which 0.1W10vol% oxides are produced. These metals are oxidized by Cu2O and CuO, and are dispersed uniformly as oxides into Cu, whereby the oxide dispersion reinforced type copper alloy is produced by the use of less oxygen for oxidation in a relatively short time.
