PURPOSE:To simply seal an end of a ceramic tube by a method wherein a lead from an end cap is bent and the end of the lead is coupled to the edge of the end of the tube and subsequently a gap between the tube and the end cap is sealed off. CONSTITUTION:To a vertically installed ceramic tube 1 permeable to light, a ceramic end cap 2 having a diameter slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the tube 1 and a lead 4 of an electrode 3 in the center of the end cap is attached, the lead being airtightly fixed to the cap by a sealing agent. The lead 4 introduced outside the cap 2 is bent, for instance, into a loop and the end of the lead is coupled to the edge of the end of the tube 1 so that the end cap 2 is held in the predetermined position. Then the sealing agent added to a gap between the ceramic tube 1 and the end cap 2 is heated, fused and cooled to seal off the gap. In so doing, it becomes extremely simple to seal the end of the ceramic tube.
