Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish an easy packing of mercury into a bulb by means of a mercury-containing capsule so put in a small cylinder attached to a mount flare sealing the end of the bulb that the mercury is released thereinto when the capsule is broken.
CONSTITUTION: A small cylinder 5 in which a glass capsule 6 containing liquid mercury 7 thereinside is placed is attached to a flare section 3 of a mount 2 which seals an opening section of a bulb 1. One of the ends of the cylinder 5 is communicated to the inside of the bulb 1 through a hole 4. Hot rays from an infrared heater are irradiated to the cylinder 5 to heat the mercury 7. The resulting vapor pressure of the mercury 7 breaks the capsule 6 to allow the mercury to discharge into the bulb 1. Laser may be used for the breakage of the capsule 1.
