Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent both blackening of a lamp and deterioration of its luminous flux at the end part of its glass tube, by using a quartz glass tube as substitute for a metallic ring. CONSTITUTION:Cylindrical quartz glass tube 4 mainly composed of quartz is arranged in the surroundings of an electrode 1. The quartz glass tube 4, being permeable almost for ultraviolet rays of wave length 254mm., can permit a good emission of light at the end part of a glass tube 2. While a dispersed material from the electrode 1, being shielded by the quartz glass tube 4, can not reach the glass tube 2 and never adhere to the tube 2.
