Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the carbon potential in a furnace accurately by controlling the supplying amount of an enriching gas by operating the carbon potential in accordance with the detected value of the partial pressure of the oxygen in the furnace as well as the partial pressure value and temp. value of carbon monoxide. CONSTITUTION:An oxygen concn. cell type oxygen probe 11, a temp. detector 12, an IR type CO analyzer 13, etc. are disposed in a furnace 1. The detected oxygen partial pressure value and the detected or preset CO partial pressure value and temp. value are inputted to a microcomputer 14. The carbon potential of the gaseous atmosphere in the furnace corresponding to the inputted singals is operated by the program stored in a memory 18 of the computor 14. This is compared with the target value and in accordance with the signal thereof, a flow rate controlling valve 6 is controlled to supply an enriching gas to the inside of the carburizing furnace 1 from a supply source 4.
