Abstract

PURPOSE: To decarburize molten steel to a target C value by automatically controlling the degree of vacuum in a vacuum treatment apparatus and the amount of oxygen to supply on the basis of the content of molten steel, both obtained by measurement of waste gas, specimen, in the decarburization treatment of the molten steel by vacuum degassing.
CONSTITUTION: In order to decarburize and refine a molten stainless steel, etc., under oxidation, in the vacuum treatment apparatus without oxidizing Cr, the ambient pressure of the apparatus 3 is lowered by the evacuator 1, the partial pressure of CO is lowered, and O2 gas from an O2 supplier is blown into the molten steel. In this case, the measured values of the flow meter 4 and the analyzer 6 for waste gas, provided in the waste gas path 4 of the appartus 3, are put in the arithmetical unit 7 to obtain the C content of the molten metal. On the basis of the measured value and the C amount-ambient pressure-oxygen amount relation stored in the memory 10, the vacuum regulator 8 and the O2 gas supply regulator 9 are automatically controlled properly by the control unit 11. Also,at the time when the C content is 0.02W0.06% larger than the target C value, the supply of oxygen is stopped and decarburization is performed by O2 present in the molten steel, the O2 content of the molten steel is reduced, and the consumption of Al of deoxidizer is saved.
