Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform decarbonization and annealing at the optima, by controlling the dew point and the oxidizing or reducing properties etc. of the atmosphere gas by measuring the oxygen partial pressure of the atmosphere gas in a furnace by oxygen sensors. CONSTITUTION:An annealing furnace is equipped with an oxygen sensor for detecting oxygen partial pressure and an oxygen sensor having reference electrode (a mixture of Fe and FeO) of a prescribed concn. For example, in the inner cover of an annealing furnace is placed a cold rolled hoop, and are set an upper oxygen sensor 3 for setting annealing conditions and a lower oxygen sensor 4 for controlling, both sensors being connected to volt meters respectively, reference electrodes dides to the minus sides of the voltmeters and gas sides to the plus sides. When the hoop 2 and the atmosphere gas contg. steam are heated to 500 deg.C, electromotove force is measured. The upper sensor 3 is set at -10mV electromotive force and is kept at the electromotive force during annealing. When the lower sensor 4 attains -5.4mV electromotive force, dry soaking operation is started immediately and the hoop is cooled. Hereby the hoop contg. 0.0021% carbon is obtained.
