Abstract
PURPOSE:To accurately control the carbon potential in a heat treatment furnace by measuring the temp. and concns. of Co and O2 of the gaseous atmosphere consisting essentially of nitrogen in said furnace, and controlling the rate of supply of enrich gas into the furnace from the deviation between the set value of a target O2 concn. and the O2 concn. in the furnace. CONSTITUTION:At the time of carburizing the surfaces of iron and steel products in a carburizing furnace 1, the gas in the furnace is sampled through a take-out pipe 5, and is measured of CO concn. with an analyzer 6. The measured value thereof is fed to a carbon concn. controller 7. On the other hand, the in-furnace temp. signal measured with a thermocouple 3 is also fed to the controller 7, and a set signal is also sent from a carbon concn. setter 8 to the controller 7, by which the target O2 conc. corresponding to the equil. carbon concn. of the gaseous atmosphere is calculated and outputted. This and the measured signal of the in-furnace O2 concn. from a varying oxygen concentration cell 2 are compared, and the result thereof is outputted to a control valve V to control the degree of opening of the valve V, thereby adequately supplying the enrich gas of hydrocarbon and accurately controlling the carbon concn. in the furnace to the target value.
