Abstract

PURPOSE:To inhibit carbon deterioration and nitriding tendency, by automatically computing and controlling the atmosphere of a mixed gas of N2 and H2 in annealing so that an index showing carbon deposition and decarburization tendency represents invariable decarburization. CONSTITUTION:The mixture of H2 gas and N2 gas with N2 base is sent through a mixing machine 2 into a box type annealing furnace 1. Subsequently, CO formed in the furnace during the process of annealing and H2 in an atmosphere in the furnace are measured with an analyzer 4 and the moisture with a moisture analyzer 3. These measurements are input to a computer 6. An index showing the carbon deposition and decarbrization tendency of steel plate is computed in association with the temperature of the steel plate at a point of time of the measurement. At that time, if the index represents a carbon deposition tendency, moisture is fed from a pipe for sending an adjustment gas 9 into the furnace 1 and the atmospheric gas is automatically computed and controlled so that the index represents the decarburization tendency invariably.
