Abstract

PURPOSE:To control an equilibrium carbon concn. in a carburizing furnace precisely and easily to carry out carburizing well by a method wherein nitrogen and an org. liquid agent are introduced into the carburizing furnace and, corresponding to a CO amount and a CO2 amount measured values of an atmospheric gas in the furnace, a hydrocarbon type gas is added. CONSTITUTION:Nitrogen and an org. liquid agent are directly introduced into the carburizing furnace 1 from a pipe passage 2 to form a carrier gas. Further, a hydrocarbon type gas is supplied from a pipe passage 3 so as to form an atmospheric gas with a predetermined equilibrium carbon concn. CO and CO2 of the resultant atmospheric gas are measured by a CO analyser 6 and a CO2 analyser 11. The CO analysing signal, a temp. signal in the furnace by a thermocouple 7 and an objective carbon concn. set signal from a surface carbon amount conc. setting instrument 8 are operated by an operation apparatus 10 to calculate an objective CO2 amount. The resultant objective CO2 amount is applied to a CO2 controller 9 as a set value. The controller 9 operates a control valve 4 by a deviation signal of the CO2 analysing signal and the objective CO2 amount signal to keep an equilibrium carbon concn. of the gas in the furnace 1 to a desired value.
