Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound industrially useful as a raw material of the organic synthesis, etc. directly in high yield, by catalytically reacting methyl acetate with carbon monoxide under the vapor phase conditions in the presence of a rhodium catalyst supported on a porous inorganic carrier.
CONSTITUTION: Methyl acetate is catalytically reacted with carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium catalyst supported on a porous inorganic carrier substance, preferably in the presence of a reaction accelerator, e.g. methyl iodide, at 150W300°C, preferably 200W250°C, under the vapor phase conditions to give the titled compound. Preferably, the reaction pressure is ordinary pressure W30kg/cm2, and the raw material gas flow rate (GHSV) is about 500W10,000. The catalyst is prepared by supporting any rhodium compound, e.g. rhodium oxide, on the porous inorganic carrier substance, e.g. active carbon or alumina, by the conventional method and used as a fixed bed or fluidized bed.
