Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound, e.g., acetic acid, acetaldehyde, ethanol, etc., by reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen using a highly active catalyst obtained by blending rhodium with lithium or calcium as a cocatalyst.
CONSTITUTION: In reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium catalyst to give an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon compound having two carbon atoms, e.g., acetic acid, acetaldehyde, and (or) ethanol, lighium or calcium is used together as a cocatalyst. This catalyst is obtained by dissolving rhodium and lithium or calcium compound in water or an organic solvent, e.g., n-hexane, alcohol, etc., adding a porous inorganic carrier substance to the solution, supporting these substances on the carrier conventionally, followed by reduction or heat treatment. Preferably the rhodium content in the supported catalyst is 0.1W10wt%, and the content of cocatalyst metal is 0.2W15wt%.
