Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield, by reacting a 2,7-octadien- ol with a mixed gas of hydrogen with carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium catalyst and a unidentate tertiary orgnaophosphorus compound in an organic solvent under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: 2,7-octadien-1-ol is reacted with a mixed gas of hydrogen with carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium catalyst and a unidentate tertiary organophosphorus compound in an amount of 30W300 equivalents based on one rhodium atom under the following conditions: a partial pressure of hydrogen of 0.5W20kg/cm2.absolute and a partial pressure of carbon monoxide of 0.1W 5.0kg/cm2 absolute in an organic solvent to give the aimed compound useful as a starting raw material for various industrially useful compounds industrially and advantageously. The reaction temperature is 40W130°C, preferably 50W120°C, and the formation ratio of both compounds can be suitably change by selecting the partial pressure of the carbon monoxide in the reaction conditions.
