Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of the intermediate for organic synthesis and a phase-transfer catalyst, with simple procedure, in high yield, by reacting N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine with CO2 in the presence of monomethylamine and/or 1,3-dimethylurea.
CONSTITUTION: 1W4 Moles of monomethylamine and/or 0.2W3mol of 1,3-dimethylurea are added to 1mol of N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine. 1.5W3mol of carbon dioxide gas is introduced into the mixture under pressure, and made to react under stirring at 180W280°C and 30W200kg/cm2 pressure. After the completion of the reaction, the low-boiling component is recovered by atmospheric distillation, and then the objective compound is separated by vacuum distillation. The distillation residue contains 1,3-dimethylurea, which can be used as a raw material of the next reaction. The diamine used as a raw material can be prepared by the reaction of ethylene chloride with monomethylamine. The diamine thus prepared contains a large amount of unreacted monomethylamine, and it is preferable to use the produced diamine as the raw material without purification.
