Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful for the synthesis of serine, etc., economically, by reacting an α,β-dihalogenopropionitrile with ammonia in a solvent such as water, and without separating the product, reacting the reaction product with an alkali metal hydroxide, etc. in the presence of water.
CONSTITUTION: An α-halogeno-β-aminopropionitrile is prepared by reacting an α,β-dihalogenopropionitrile with ammonia in water and/or an organic solvent such as a lower alcohol, pref. at -20W+20°C. Without separating the compound from the reaction mixture, it is treated with an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide in the presence of water pref. at 20W80°C to obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate of α-amino acid such as serine or pesticides and pharmaceuticals. The titled compound can be prepared from the easily, economically and industrially available said raw material by simplified process with easy operation in high yield, economically, in an industrial scale.
