EXAMPLE: α-chloro-β-aminopropionitrile.
USE: An intermediate for the synthesis of amino acids, medicines, and agricultural chemicals, and useful as an intermediate for the general organic synthesis.
PROCESS: An α-halogenoacrylonitrile or α,β-dihalogenopropionitrile as a raw material is reacted with ammonia in water or an organic solvent, e.g. methanol or ethanol, at- 40W30°C for 0.5W20hr to give a compound of the formula. The reaction in the atmosphere or stream of nitrogen prevents side reactions such as the polymerization or decomposition of the α-halogenoacrylonitrile or α-halogeno-β-aminopropionitrile to be formed.
