Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtian methyl acetate and methyl formate simultaneously in high selectivity, by the reaction of inexpensive methanol with a CO source or a synthetic gas using an Al catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The title compounds are obtained simulatneously by the reaction of methanol and CO (high purity is not necessary and synthetic gas can be used as it is) at 120W300°C, preferably 150W280°C, preferably in a solvent, e.g. dimethylacetamide, in the presence of an Al catalyst, e.g. Al powder, Al hydride, etc. The amount of the catalyst is 0.5W200mg atom, preferably 2W50mg atom, of Al to 1mol of methanol. The partial pressure of CO is 20W400kg/cm2G, preferably 50W300kg/cm2G.
