Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an alcohol solution of cobalt tetracarbonyl anion at a high yield by reacting a cobalt salt in an alcohol solvent with carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
CONSTITUTION: An alcohol such as methanol and a cobalt slat such as cobalt carbonate, cobalt acetate, etc. are added to a reactor. Then, carbon monoxide and hydrogen are added to the reactor. The reaction of the cobalt salt in an alcohol with carbon monoxide and hydrogen produces at a high yield a catalyst solution consisting of an alcohol solution of cobalt tetracarbonyl anion. The catalyst solution obtained can be used as such without the necessity of complicated operations such as crystallization, separation processes, etc.
