Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound, economically, in an industrial scale, by the hydroesterification of butadiene in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl catalyst, using a mixed solvent composed of two or more compounds selected from pyridine and its alkyl-substituted derivatives.
CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of a 3-pentenoic acid ester by the reaction of butadiene, carbon monoxide and an alcohol in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl catalyst, a sufficiently high reaction rate can be attained with a small amount of catalyst, various side reactions can be suppressed, and the selectively and the yield can be improved by the use of a mixed solvent composed of two or more compounds selected from pyridine and its alkyl derivatives as a reaction solvent. Accordingly, the process enables the effective utilization of the raw material butadiene at a low catalyst cost, and has high efficiency from the industrial viewpoint. The alkyl-substituted derivative of pyridine is esp. pref. β- or γ-picoline, or 3,4- or 3,5-lutidine.
