Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a haloketone easily in high yield with little side reactions, by reacting a carboxylic acid halide with a 2-halomethyl-3-halo-1-propene in the presence of a complex of an aluminum halide with a nitro compound as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An acid halide of the formula RCOX (R is monocarboxylic acid residue; X is halogen) is reacted with a 2-halomethyl-3-halo-1-propene to give a haloketone of formulas 1 and/or 2. In the process, a complex of (A) an aluminum halide with (B) a nitro compound is used as a catalyst to carry out the reaction. The catalyst is prepared by mixing 0.5W2mol, based on one mole carboxylic acid halide, components (A) with (B) at a weight ratio of 1:(0.5W5), and the reaction is carried out in the presence of an inert solvent at 70W0°C. According to the method, the heat generation in the reaction is slight. The resultant haloketone is useful as an intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, particularly pyrethroid insecticides, or industrial chemicals.
