Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare copper phthalocyanine useful as raw materials for pigments or dyes in high purity and yield, by reacting phthalic anhydride or phthalimide with urea, a copper compound, and a catalyst, in the presence of a bromine compound.
CONSTITUTION: Phthalic anhydride or phthalimide is reacted with urea, a copper compound, and a catalyst in the presence of a bromine compound, e.g. copper, ammonium, sodium, potassium, or zinc bromide, or bromine, in an organic solvent to give copper phthalocyanine. One or two or more types of compounds selected from Mo, Ti, and Zr compounds, iron and zinc chlorides may be used as the catalyst.
