Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a high-quality lowly chlorinated copper phthalocyanine in a high yield, by the thermal reaction of a metal salt of chlorophthalic acid with addition of urea, a copper salt and a catalyst in the presence of ammonium bromide.
CONSTITUTION: A metal salt of chlorophthalic acid is thermally reacted in an inert solvent with addition of urea, a copper salt and a catalyst and, if necessary, phthalic acid, phthalic anhydride or phthalimide in the presence of ammonium bromide. It is possible to use inexpensive and easily available sodium or potassium chlorophthalate as said metal salt. The catalyst is ammonium molybdate, molybdenum oxide, ammonium tungstate, etc.
