Abstract
PURPOSE: A fused dispersion of a molybdenum compound in urea is used as a catalyst to effect the reaction between phthalic acid, urea and a copper compound to produce the titled compound used as a dye or pigment without corrosion of metal, reduction in yield and fluctuation in quality.
CONSTITUTION: A molybdenum compound such as ammonium molybdate is dispersed or dissolved in urea, preferably in an amount of 2W100 times that of the molybdenum compound at 130W140°C, then they are cooled and crushed to prepare the catalyst. The reaction between phthalic acid and/or its derivative such as phthalic anhydride (1mol), urea and/or urea derivative such as biuret (1.5W 3.5%), and a copper compound such as cuprous chloride (20W30%) is effected in the presence of the above catalyst, preferably in a solvent such as nitrobenzene to produce the objective copper phthalocyanine.
