Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound usable as raw materials for dyes and pigments in high purity and yield, by reacting phthalic anhydride or phthalimide with urea, a copper compound, and a catalyst in the presence of an iodine compound in an organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Phthalic anhydride or phthalimide is reacted with urea, a copper compound, e.g. CuCl2 or CuCl3, and a catalyst, e.g. one or two or more types of ammonium molybdate, TiCl4, etc. in the presence of an iodine compound, e.g. CuI2 or NH4I, in an organic solvent, e.g. nitrobenzene or trichlorobenzene, at 170W200°C to give copper phthalocyanine.
