Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform toning of a black ink containing carbon black inexpensively and to impart thereto high fastness and excellent toning effect and printability, by using a copper phthalocyanine pigment obtained by a specified preparation process as a toner. CONSTITUTION:A copper phthalocyanine pigment obtained by reacting phthalic acid and/or its derivative with urea and copper or its compound in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst and a compound of formula I [wherein CuPc is a copper phthalocyanine residue, X is a sulfonic acid group, a carboxyl group or a group derived from a carboxyl group (when two or more of these groups are adjacent to each other, they may be combined to form an imide or an acid anhydride) or its alkali metal or ammonium salt, and n<=8] [e.g., a compound of formula II (wherein n=0.2-4.0) or a compound of formula III (wherein n=0.5-8.0)] is used as a toner for a black ink containing carbons black. This pigment is more economical than conventional phthalocyanine pigments and Alkali Blue, has a blue color with a deep reddish black tint, and excels in fastness and printability, so that it is an excellent toner.
