Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, dyestuffs, explosives, etc., in high purity and yield, in a short time, by the reaction of m-dichlorobenzene with chlorine in the vapor phase, at a specific molar ratio and a temperature in a specific range.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of m-dichlorobenzene is reacted with chlorine in an amount of 0.25W2mol, especially 0.3W1mol, in the vapor phase, at 400W500°C, especially at 400W480°C, to prepare 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene.
