Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare β-chlorostyrene useful as an intermediate of organic synthesis products, economically, in an industrial scale, in high yield with simple reaction operations, by heating α,β-dichloroethylbenzene at a specific temperature range in the presence of a transition metal compound.
CONSTITUTION: An α,β-dichloroethylbenzene I (X is H, alkyl, halogen or nitro; n is integer of 1W3) is heated to give the β-chlorostyrene II. The reaction is carried out at 100W250°C in the presence of a transition metal compound. The transition metal compound is an inorganic acid salt, an organic acid salt or an organic complex of a VI, VII or VIII group transition metal, e.g. chromium (II) chloride, manganese chloride, nickel acetylacetonate, etc.
