Abstract
PURPOSE:To accelerate the decoding of an instruction and thus enhance the performance of a processor, by simultaneously decoding the final operand with the decoding cycle of the operand preceding by one when the final operand of an instruction is given in a register direct mode. CONSTITUTION:In the case of the two operand addition instructions, the 1st and 2nd operands are read out of a ROM405. In this case, it is supposed that the 2nd operand is given in either one of figures (a)-(d) and in a register direct mode. Thus the 1st operand is positioned before the final operand in the first decoding cycle to satisfy BENDR=1. Accordingly the output of a decoder 409 is ''1'' to give a control to a selector 403 or the like. Then the next decoding cycle is not defined as the decoding cycle of the 2nd operand, and the next instruction is decoded. In such way, the decoding of an addition instruction can be finished in a cycle.
