Abstract

PURPOSE: A mutant in Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium, requiring acetic acid and producing L-arginine, is used to produce L-arginine in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism in Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium, requiring acetic acid and producing L-arginine, is aerobically cultured in a liquid medium and the L-arginine accumulated in the culture mixture is collected. The mutant is derived by bringing the parent strain, such as Brevibacterium divaricatum (ATCC14020) or Brevibacterium flavum (ATCC14067) into contact with N- methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine. The liquid culture medium contains aliphatic alcohol or fatty acid and saccharide as carbon sources.
