Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a dialysis membrane made of regenerated cellulose of less yellowing even after high pressure steam sterilization and of a low rate of elution of yellow colored matter despite contact with water by keeping a copper value within a specific range and a content of carboxylic groups within a specific range.
CONSTITUTION: In a dialysis membrane made of regenerated cellulose by a copper ammonia process which is hollow yarn or tubular membrane used for blood dialysis of artifical kidneys, artificial livers, etc., the copper value is kept at 0.2W0.45 (more particularly 0.25W0.35) and the content of carboxylic groups at 1.3W1.8mm equiv./100g (more particularly 1.5W1.8mm equiv./100g). To produce this dialysis membrane, the cellulose is formed to a dialysis membrane, after which it is treated with an aq. alkali soln. of 1×10-4W1×10-1mm/l concns. and at 40W 100°C without drying, thence it is washed and dried, whereby it is obtained.
