Abstract

PURPOSE: Acrylamide and 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonate salt are copolymerized in an aqueous solution, treated with heat under specific conditions and then dried to produce said high-polymer coagulant with good solubility in water.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer aqueous solution of 2-40wt% concentration consisting of 55-98wt% of acrylamide and 45-2wt% of 2-acrylamide-2-methyl-propanesulfonate is subjected to solution polymerization in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator at -10-105°C. The resulting copolymer is heat treated at a temperature higher than that of polymerization for 15 min to 5 hr under moisture conditions from the moisture content at the completion of the polymerization to about 20wt% water content and then dried by removing water at 60-150°C for 30min to 5 hr to a level of 5-15wt% water content
