Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a steel material for line pipes of superior hydrogen-induced cracking resistance by blooming a large-sized steel ingot of specific compsn. and subjecting the same to a soaking treatment by selecting the temp. and time within a limited range then hot-rolling the ingot.
CONSTITUTION: A large-sized steel ingot of ≥400mm thickness consisting of 0.05W 0.20% C, <0.5% Si, 0.9W1.60% Mn, <0.03% P, 0.002W0.15% S, <0.1% Al, and the balance iron and impurities, and further, if necessary, contg. Ca, V, Nb, Mo, Cu, Cr, Ni, B, Ti is bloomed. This is soaked at the temp. and time within the range of the shaded part enclosed by the points A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H of the figure showing the region of soaking conditions. Thence, this slab is hot-rolled. If pipes are produced by using such steel material, the hydrogen-induced cracking of the line pipes is prevented effectively.
