Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a low temp. steel of superior toughness and hydrogen induced cracking resistance characteristic by rolling a steel slab consisting of specific component composition under prescribed temp. conditions then subjecting the same to water cooling and tempering.
CONSTITUTION: A steel slab consisting essentially of 0.02W0.2% C based on weight percent (hereafter the same), 0.05W0.50 Si, 0.5W2.0Mn, 0.005W0.1 Al, and 0.01W0.08 Nb, and if necessary, contg. 0.003W0.04 Ti, contg. one or two or more kinds among ≤0.006 S, ≤1.0 Ni, ≤0.3 Mo, ≤0.5 Cu, ≤0.1 V, ≤0.4 Cr, ≤0.003 B, or contg. at least one of 0.001W0.1 Ca or REM is hot-rolled at ≥900°C. Thence, it is cumulatively screwed down at a 40% reduction of area in an unrecrystallization austenite region or austenite-ferrite two regions below 900°C. After it is once cooled down below Ar transformation point, it is reheated to the temp. region of Ac1W Ac3, thence it is tempered below Ac1 point after water cooling.
