Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the low-temperature toughness of rolled steel plate by giving a temperature-lowing time of steel plate during rough rolling or between rough rolling and finishing rolling in the rolling of steel slab containing a specific amount of Ti.
CONSTITUTION: A steel slab, containing 0.03 to 0.30% C, <0.60% Si, 0.50 to 2.00% Mn, <0.03% P, <0.20% S, 0.01 to 0.10% Nb, 0.01 to 0.10% Ti, and 0.003 to 0.06% sol. Al, together with one or two or more of <1.0% Cu, <1.0% Ni, <1.0% Cr, <0.5% Mo, and 0.01 to 0.15% V, is heated at 1200°C or more for soaking. After a rough rolling of a draft of 30% or more per one pass at 1100 to 1000°C, finishing rolling is made at a temperature below 900°C with a 30% or more cumulative draft at an interval of 10 to 300 sec. expectant periods. TiN prevents the coarsening of austenite grains and the precipitation of TiC suppresses the growth of grains, raising the low-temperature toughness of steel.
